“Ode To Flander’s Field And The Absurdity Of Victory Pianos”

The subject of this painting came about while reading an article about WWII where Steinway piano company, in an effort to forestall Allied bombing of their factories in Germany, offered to airlift pianos into battlefields for the enjoyment of the combatants. The idea just struck me as totally absurd, I mean wouldn’t guitars or even banjos be MUCH lighter and easier on the soldiers than an 800 pound piano???

24×30 Oil on Canvas…ENJOY!
